Where Stories Bloom: Poetry and Passion at 10 Wilmington Place

At 10 Wilmington Place, we believe it’s never too late to pick up an old passion or discover a new one. That’s why we love sharing the creative work of our residents, who inspire us with their talents every day.

Recently, several residents have taken pen to paper, capturing moments, memories, and reflections through poetry. Whether written during our Writer’s Circle gatherings or simply inspired by the beauty of life on our campus, these poems are heartfelt reminders that self-expression doesn’t retire.

A group effort from the Writer’s Circle

The Writer’s Circle is one of our many resident-led clubs. It’s a space for storytelling, poetry, and shared creativity. This spring, the group learned how to write acrostic poems and created a collaborative piece using the phrase Wilmington Place.

Written in the spur of the moment, this poem is a heartfelt collaboration from Bob Berlon, Jan Dunlap, Milly Hubler, Mike Meier, Rub Racine, Nova Roche, George and Tish Lamb, Rose Fox, and Lil Anderson.

Willing I came to this

Independent living facility

Lovely surroundings

Meeting new friends

Interesting activities

Not a thing to worry about

Greeting friends with a happy smile

Trusting in the future

Onward to what remains

Never looking back

Perhaps all will be well

Laughing at each other's jokes

Always attending happy hour

Conversing with each other

Everyone feeling at home

Reflections in nature and daily life

Other residents have written poems that capture quiet moments and personal journeys. Nova Roche’s piece, “Gazebo at the Pond,” is a beautiful meditation on time and reflection, set against the peaceful backdrop of one of our favorite spots on campus.

Resident Howard DuVall shared a charming rhyming poem that celebrates daily life at 10 Wilmington Place. From the friendships and staff to the games and fitness classes that fill our days with laughter and purpose, his words are a joyful tribute to the community.

More than a place to live, it's a place to thrive

Whether it’s writing, painting, gardening, or music, we believe that creative expression enriches life at any age. At 10 Wilmington Place, we’re proud to support residents in doing what they love in a place that feels like home.
