Generators Ensure Safety and Accessibility for Our Residents

At 10 Wilmington Place, we’re all about putting our residents first.

We design our spaces with our residents in mind. We curate our events calendar to match our residents’ interests. Our Certified Executive Chef even tailors his menu to our residents’ tastes!

But in a senior living community, keeping residents in mind isn’t just about Wii Bowling and beautiful spaces. The safety, security and health of our residents is at the heart of everything we do at 10 Wilmington Place.

For many, safety and accessibility depends on electricity. So what happens when the power goes out?

From tornadoes and heat waves to ice and wind storms, it’s an unfortunate reality that our power grid is at the mercy of the weather. And according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, extreme weather events are only likely to become more frequent.

Unfortunately, many senior living communities don’t have a system in place to ensure that their residents are safe, even in a power outage. In fact, a recent study found that most Assisted Living communities don’t even have generators available.

But 10 Wilmington Place recently invested in additional generators to ensure that all of our residents — from Memory Care to Independent Living — have what they need during even the most inclement weather.

These generators provide a few key resources:

  • Uninterrupted Care: A disruption to a daily routine can be difficult for anyone, but that’s especially true for our Memory Care residents and those in Assisted Living who require access to certain treatments. The availability of power means that we can keep these routines intact, even during the worst weather.
  • Permanent Mobility: In some communities, it’s no big deal to use the stairs when the elevator is out of order. But at a senior living community, it can be much more than just an inconvenience. Our generators allow us to maintain a functioning elevator, which keeps our residents mobile.
  • Consistent Temperature: During a 95-degree day or a snowy winter night, not being able to control the temperature of a building can be unpleasant. That’s even worse in a senior living community! We don’t want our residents to ever have to suffer through the conditions, so our generators keep them comfortable during any weather.
  • Connectivity: Our residents might be seniors, but that doesn’t mean it’s not important for them to be connected! From our innovative LifeLoop technology to regular internet access, it’s crucial for us to keep that access available. That’s tough to do without power!

Our new generators are just one of many ways 10 Wilmington Place wants to demonstrate our commitment to giving our residents the best.

We didn’t add them because they’re required by law or because our power goes out every week — we did it because we want to continue to improve the lives of our residents in any way we can. We’re not resting on our laurels.

If you’d like to come see the other ways we put residents first, schedule a tour. We’ll even throw in a great lunch!
