Meet Pat Huser

Pat Huser’s story is one of deep connection to her family, to her community, and to a life deeply well-lived. Originally from Kentucky, Pat made her way to the Dayton area in 1970, where she and her husband built a life centered around raising their two daughters and staying closely connected to loved ones.

“I taught preschool for 17 years,” Pat shares. “Then I became an activities director in senior living. I like to say I went from diapers to Depends. That’s kind of the story of my life.”

Her career reflects what matters most to her: caring for others, building relationships, and creating meaningful moments across generations.

A Move Guided by Love and Intention

Pat and her husband, Dan, had long talked about moving to 10 Wilmington Place. It was part of their plan for the future. But life shifted quickly when her husband was diagnosed with ALS and passed away just months later.

After taking time and space to grieve, Pat made a decision rooted in both courage and love.

“I thought, I’m just going to follow what was our dream, to come here,” she says. “It was the best move I made since I lost Dan.”

The move brought an unexpected legacy as well.

“I kept my house, and now my granddaughter lives there,” Pat shares with a smile.

Today, she carries her decision to move with both gratitude and peace, creating a new chapter while honoring the life they shared.

Why 10 Wilmington Place Felt Like Home

Having worked in senior living herself, Pat knew what to look for and what didn’t feel right. She explored several communities in the Dayton area before choosing 10 Wilmington Place.

“I like the fact that it’s privately owned. There’s a huge difference,” she explains.

But beyond the practical benefits, it was the feeling of the place that stood out most.

“It’s very, very, very friendly. You walk in and people are kind. I’ve met some really nice people here,” she says. “I’m really happy here.”

Community That Truly Cares

One of the biggest surprises for Pat has been just how naturally supportive the community is.

“Most of your neighbors help your neighbors here,” she says. “If someone’s been in the hospital, people knock on the door and say, ‘Can I bring your dinner?’”

She stays active through a meditation group, card games, and the wellness committee, where residents support one another in small but meaningful ways.

“There’s not a huge need for the wellness committee,” she adds with a smile, “because people are just so kind.”

Close to Family, Connected to What Matters

For Pat, location played a major role in her decision. Her daughters live within walking distance, making it easy to stay closely connected to her growing family.

“My little great-grandson is coming over today,” she says. “They can just walk up if they want. It’s really nice.”

Family has always been her foundation. From hosting large holiday gatherings to staying involved in her faith community, those connections continue to shape her daily life.

Independence Without Isolation

One of the biggest benefits Pat has found is the balance between independence and support.

“You can have your cake and eat it too here,” she says. “My girls don’t have to worry or ask, ‘Is Mom bored?’ They can’t even find me half the time!”

With transportation services, social opportunities, and a built-in community, she’s able to live fully on her own terms without feeling alone.

Words to Live By

When asked what advice she would share, Pat doesn’t hesitate.

“I think people should live in the now. We spend so much time regretting the past or worrying about the future. Why waste today?”

She pauses, then adds: “My gift to Dan was to find joy, and I have. I’m happy here.”
