Finding the right senior living in Dayton, Ohio isn’t just about today. It’s about knowing you or..
The process of researching, reaching out to learn more and making the decision to move forward with a move to a senior living community can feel a bit daunting.
You’ve explored your options online, narrowed your list and you’re ready to embark upon in-person tours and visits. What questions should you ask? How will you know when a community is a good fit?
Every community is different, and we know it can be difficult to keep all of the nuances straight.
When guests tour our historic, 34-acre campus, whether you’re looking for Independent Living, Assisted Living, or Memory Care, we strive to give you a firsthand experience about daily life at 10 Wilmington Place. Join us for a lunch tour where you can learn about our amenities,, tour apartments, view floor plans and ask important questions as you explore every facet of our community.
How can you ensure a community meets your needs?
Beyond the basics, like cost and availability, here are 10 important questions to ask during a tour:
It’s important to choose a community where the management team is visible and hands-on day-to-day. Ask how often the owners of the community are on-site and can you reach Directors of various departments the same day you have a need? What’s the typical turnaround time for a work order?
Are you touring a community where residents know the owner’s name, or one where a corporate conglomerate in another state runs the show? We pride ourselves on being a family-owned and operated community — but that’s not always the case. Everyone has a preference; choosing to live in a community with true ties to the local area offers a more personalized experience.
What amenities are included with my monthly rent? At 10 Wilmington Place, your rent includes restaurant-style meals, housekeeping, transportation and more. Communities vary widely with the amenities that are included in your monthly rent. Check with your Sales Counselor to outline these details. Take a look at our Cost Comparison worksheet to learn more before embarking upon tours.
The initial introductory offer may sound great – don’t forget to ask about rent increases, what the annual history has been at each community and when the next increase is due to happen. We strive to keep our annual increases to a minimum compared to industry standards. At 10 Wilmington Place, we have averaged a 3% increase over the past 37 years – which is unheard of in our industry.
An exclusive Independent Living community may be a great option for active seniors, but it’s important to think about future needs when making a move. Does the community have continuing care options? At 10 Wilmington Place, we offer a continuum of care, allowing residents to age in place.
Many senior living communities tend to look the same. Rooms, meal selection and activities can become repetitive. At 10 Wilmington Place, we take pride in not only offering unique apartment accommodations, our grounds are a one-of-a-kind experience with walking paths and scenic views at every turn. We have 26 floor plans in Independent Living, offer a variety of fun and interesting daily activities and have a Certified Executive Chef, who prepares a wide variety of meals to please the palate!
When you’re touring a potential community, it’s always good to ask what the procedure looks like when you have a problem. Do you have to fill out a card or an online form, or can you simply speak in person to someone in management? At 10 Wilmington Place, our management and leaders are a part of our community, not managing things from afar. They engage with residents during regularly scheduled meetings to hear their input and feedback. If you need something addressed in your apartment, we make it easy with a call or stopping by the front desk to place a work order. We aim to make life simple.
Seniors choose retirement communities for many different reasons – what makes 10 Wilmington Place special? If you’re unsure about the amenities that would excite you most, what you should look for in an activities calendar, or what questions to ask about the menus in dining – a tour is the perfect time to address those questions. You can also gain first hand perspective on daily living and meet current residents. Make the most of your tour experience!
Don’t hesitate to ask questions about safety and accessibility while touring a community. These topics may not be a huge concern upon initial move-in, but as you age in place, ensure you’ll have the necessary options to ensure utmost safety.
We know the importance of access to services, grocery stores, physicians and more. Being centrally located is vital. When choosing a retirement community, location plays a part in feeling connected to your community. 10 Wilmington Place is close to the Dayton area’s best hospitals, a plethora of physician offices and additional medical services. Shopping centers and grocery stores are nearby, with weekly outings that offer transportation.
